In comparing PMHNP practices in my home state with a nearby state, I noticed several differences. In the first place, there are differences in how states regulate NPs. For example, in my state, NPs can practice without physician supervision, while the state next door requires them to maintain a collaboration agreement with a doctor to continue practicing. The scope of practice varies between the states, as certain may allow an NNP to prescribe medications or treatment while other may not. Finaly, the reimbursement rates of services rendered by an NP will vary depending upon your type and level of coverage.
When deciding on where to work as a NP, it’s important to keep all these things in mind to make sure you can practice within the area that interests you and get paid adequately for your service. Additionally, doing thorough research into each individual state’s regulations regarding advanced nursing practice can help provide clarity on any restrictions or requirements which could affect your ability to pursue your professional goals.
