The risk management program at my organization ensures that patients’ information is kept secure and confidential by enforcing strict social media policies. They include rules such as refraining from sharing content related to patients outside official channels, e.g. personal accounts, encrypting all data, and prohibiting public WiFI for sensitive materials.
A part of our risk-management program is also to train staff on using social media professionally and respecting the privacy of patients. Topics include understanding the legal implications when posting specific types of content and being familiar with security protocols for connecting externally to devices/networks.
This helps to ensure our organization complies with HIPAA regulations and protects patient confidentiality, which is crucial for quality healthcare.
