Db6. week 8. health care policies
Unionization is important for nurses to be able to speak out about issues such as patient safety, quality care and their own rights. The union representation of nurses allows them to bargain collectively for better working conditions, higher wages, more staff, or other significant benefits. By joining forces under one union, nurses have the opportunity to influence policy at every level including within their organization.
It also gives nurses greater leverage to advocate for resources that are needed or voice grievances over working conditions. A union provides an organized framework in which problems such as poor supplies or healthcare practices that could threaten patient safety can be addressed quickly before they turn into serious issues. By having this system of accountability in place, it ensures that all employees are held accountable which leads to greater transparency within the organization—ultimately creating an atmosphere where nurses feel secure enough to focus on providing the highest quality care possible without fear of repercussions.
