These include the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
Quality management is heavily influenced by the standards and guidelines that are set forth by organizations for quality improvement, regulatory agencies and other organizations. The standards help healthcare organizations develop policies and procedures to enhance the quality of their care. These standards have a positive impact on staffing, as they create a culture that encourages high-quality professionals to stay and attract them. In contrast, non-compliance can have negative consequences such as low patient satisfaction and a bad reputation.
For example, one of the standards of the TJC is reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) by implementing evidence-based practices (The Joint Commission, 2022). In order to comply with the standard, healthcare organizations must implement and maintain policies and procedures for infection control that are reviewed and updated regularly and adhered to by their staff. To develop these policies, a multidisciplinary group of nurses, physicians and infection prevention specialists must be involved. This multidisciplinary approach in developing infection control procedures has a positive effect on communication, collaboration and decision-making within healthcare organisations.

The standards and regulations established by accreditation bodies and organizations that promote quality in healthcare have a significant impact on quality management. These standards have a positive impact on staffing, collaboration, and decision-making within healthcare organizations. Non-compliance can have negative consequences. The nurses are vital in the provision of quality care. They should know about standards and guidelines.
