Home Homework Help According to the recently released American Heart Association guidelines on hypertension, what should be the BP goal for a patient with chronic stable angina and hypertension?
According to American Heart Association hypertension guidelines recently released, the BP for a person with stable chronic hypertension and angina should not exceed 130/80 mmHg. Evidence shows that a blood pressure of 130/80 mmHg or lower can reduce the risk of strokes, heart attacks, and other cardiovascular events. If these patients have diabetes, their target blood pressure should even be lower, at 120/80mmHg, due to increased risks associated with the condition.

In order to help achieve this goal it’s important for patients to make lifestyle changes such as reducing sodium intake and engaging in regular physical activity; additionally, certain medications may also be prescribed depending on factors like age or comorbidities. For instance, one option is an ACE inhibitor which works by blocking certain hormones that cause blood vessels to narrow—thereby allowing more oxygen-rich blood flow around the body which helps lower BP readings.

Managing hypertension requires a constant effort, but individuals can achieve their desired BP targets with dedication and determination. Regular check-ups are key since they offer medical personnel opportunities to monitor how treatments are progressing; furthermore, it’s important for everyone involved in care—patients and healthcare providers alike—to remember that although medication can play a role in controlling hypertension ultimately success comes down to making healthy choices every single day.
